Research Focus

Description of Research Interests

My research interests lie at the intersection of pain and chronic illness, specifically heart failure (HF).

  • Heart failure represents a significant subset of cardiovascular disease with important implications for healthcare costs and human health.

  • Previously conducted studies have identified that patients with HF struggle with pain in a variety of pain locations, which are influenced by disparate pathologic pathways. This heterogeneity has made characterization and treatment of pain in HF complex.

  • Novel approaches are needed to characterize pain in HF, one of which is identifying the biologic mechanisms underlying pain in this population.

My postdoctoral fellowship appointment at the Indiana University School of Nursing aims to focused on the symptom science of pain by integrating omics and neuromodulation of pain methodologies to inform future interventions.
